The Horniman’s Hornets and Bees

It is always a explosion of colour in The Horniman Museum Gardens. The bees and even hornets were making the most of the flowers today. I have to admit, I have a fear of all flying insects with stingers… even though I know they are more interested in the flowers than me! I’m finding that getting close enough to get a really nice shot of a hornet is helping me to overcome my fear, until I get stung that is! If you haven’t been to The Horniman then you should get down there. Being on top of forest hill, you get some amazing views of London and Surrey.

  1. Gorgeous colourful macro images! The top three are of Volucella zonaria -a beautiful and entirely harmless hoverfly which is a hornet mimic, so no need to worry when you see one of these at least. πŸ™‚
